Gulbary Sick Day

When the Baker is Down...

They say baking is both an art and a science, but for me, it’s always been something more—comfort, expression, and a way to share love. But what happens when the baker gets sick? Well, I found out the hard way this past week.

It started with a little nausea, then a full-blown stomach bug and fever, and before I knew it, I was completely out of commission. No kneading, no whisking, no perfectly baked muffins or fudgy brownies emerging from the oven. Just me, wrapped in blankets, sipping on warm tea, staring longingly at my kitchen from across the room.

Gulbary has always been about warmth, indulgence, and joy, and I felt like I was letting that slip away even for just a few days. Orders had to be paused, recipes had to wait, and my hands—so used to creating—were forced into rest.

But as much as I hated stepping away, this little forced break reminded me of something important: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Sometimes, rest is as essential as the ingredients we use. Just like dough needs time to rise, we need time to heal.

Now that I’m feeling better, I can’t wait to get back to the kitchen and make up for lost time. Expect fresh batches of muffins and brownies coming your way very soon. Thank you for your patience, your kind messages, and for sticking with me even when the ovens were off.

Until then, take care, stay warm, and never underestimate the power of a good cup of tea (or a well-earned nap!).

With love & flour-dusted fingers,

Shreya
